LONDON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Staff and equipment shortages resulted in the cancellation of thousands of National Health Service operations last year, British officials said.

Data released by Conservative Party officials said more than 77,000 operations were canceled for non-clinical reasons in fiscal year 2007-2008 and more than 7,000 patients had operations canceled or rescheduled more than once, the Times of London reported.
