NO!!! Private UK subjects are not allowed to carry ANYTHING for personal protection other than a personal attack alarm.

Unfortunately not, same with pepper spray. See I don't understand why especially for women that we cannot carry that to protect ourselves.
The rest of the E.U allow it though. Typical.

See - that's what I do not understand.
Here in the US, we take our personal safety seriously. Many women (and men) carry personal firearms (often concealed) and many, many people have firearms in their homes for personal protection.
For those that do not want to, or don't like, to carry a firearm, this company, TASER Inc has developed a line of smaller tasers for individuals to carry - even in designer colors
Personally, I carry a concealed firearm. My wife who often works late into the evening, carries one of these tasers

I think it's stupid too. Something you have to ask the government.
Ah well I dont think i'd get any trouble with people seeing me use my compound hunting bow
Or perhaps my beretta shotgun or remington 700 rifle?

I keep pepper spray all the time. Got three cans and figure I'll deal with the law should I ever have to use it on someone.

There's an old adage which covers situations like this:
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

My feeling is that "Armed Response Vehicles", "Authorized Firearms Officers", and "Specialist Firearms Officers" are stupid and pointless ... if you need a gun you need it right then and there, not 5 minutes or 10 minutes from then.
I find it especially disturbing that the Royal Family and the Prime Minister are always surrounded by armed officers (Metropolitan Police Royalty Protection Division and Special Branch officers are all armed) but yet the average person is totally defenseless.
