Default Is this true what I have heard?

I have read on another site that as from 2006 it is illegal to try and fix your own plumbing, electrical's and even work on your own car...Is this true?,has anyone else heard this?.I havn't been in England since 2006 so i'm a little out of touch with what's going on over there.I could probally understand ya know working on the plumbing and electrical's in a council flat or house and them getting up in arm's about it,but if you own the place who's to say what you can and can't work on in your house? If the car thing is true too then that is totally outrageous in my opinion.

Total cobblers. Of course you can work on your own house or car! That's why DIY stores do so well in the UK.

Can honestly say never heard of that before. Although it is advisable to call out a qualified electrician for safety, it's not illegal to do it yourself. Regarding cars more people probably have to use garages as cars get more complex with the use of electronic management systems, but again nothing against you fixing it yourself if you so wish.

I'd rather have a tradesman in, rather than botching it up myself. Basic DIY is ok but not plumbing, fitting a bath etc, or rewiring electrics in our kitchen.

I'll leave that to the pros.

Of course the one thing that is illegal along those lines is to fiddle with gas appliances if you`re not corgi registered. That of course does make sense or we`d have well meaning amateurs blowing things up left, right, and centre...
