No recipe. Just put some Mascarpone cheese into a bowl, add a little thick cream, could be soft whipped if you like and mix just till the consistency is more like clotted cream - basically a little wetter but still with the nice stickiness of the mascarpone. Maybe a 3-1 ratio.
I like it just that way, slathered on a scone with strawberry jam. The jam gives the additional sweetness.
Tea is both a meal ... short for tea time ... and of course the drink. It usually takes place around 4pm.
Think dainty sandwiches, as already said, fresh baked scones or a selection of finger food cakes.
Traditionally sandwiches and finger food is referred to as 'afternoon' tea. 'Cream' tea is just with scones. Not sure what dunking hobnobs or custard creams is though?....'Heavenly' tea?!
I either buy it when I am over in the UK or my mother-in-law sends it in one of her fabulous care packages (along with Twiglets, pear drops, crisps in odd flavours (ham & mustard ) and other tasty delights that my hubby misses (forgot Dove chocolate).
Walkers crisps are currently running flavours like 'cajun squirrel' and 'fish n chips'!....never thought I'd see the day!
British tea isn't that hard to find. PG Tips and tetley is in most grocery stores. If you still can't find them try World Market, they even have Yorkshire tea at the one near me which is both my grandmother's favorites (they are English and live in ENgland).
I was in World Market in Phoenix the other day. I showed up at the checkout with a variety of curry products, maltesers, milk chocolate digestives, PG tips (this makes me on-topic) and 4 tins of Heinz Baked Beans. The guy at the checkout said
"You must be British".
"How did you guess" I asked
"The Baked Beans" he said.
Turns out they actually have a waiting list for Baked Beans and, when a shipment come in, phone around a motley collection of Brits and Aussies to come in and take delivery. He said that some pick up as many as 18 tins in a go.
