I understand where you are going with this and agree to a certain extent, but if the government in power of these five nations chooses to call themselves a socialist government, who am I to argue?

And nowhere in the UK is socialist, either from the people or governments standpoint.

I also see where you are coming from and suspect that we are busy agreeing with each other

Also to condemn socialism is just mad, there are good and bad to everything even the U.S system but are these people brainwashed? Why do the Americans have such a bad view that we live in some sort of backwards nation???

Look at the Obama poster as the joker with "socialism" written at the bottom, its insulting.

It just really annoys me. I dont condemn the American system i have no problem with it, just like ours its has its faults too.

I just feel many Americans dont know what their talking about unless they have actually had the chance to live here (PA2 where are you)
It's wrong to have such a black and white view especially when many have never been out of their state let alone their own country.

If you have good insurance in the US then you have access to better facilities, and care than here - lets be honest - the NHS is far from decent. The debate in the US isn't about the quality of care - its about the cost, and the people who don't have insurance.

If people don't like 'socialism' then thats fine - if you don't like that then thays too bad. Many people on the right have very fair and rational opinions as to why socialsim in itself would be a terrible thing for a 'free and democratic' society. All western countries (including the US) have numerous socialist systems and policies.

It is true that many foreignors may not be as clued up about life here unless they actually live here - but then you haven't lived outside of Scotland yet right?

Actually, you have been highly critical of the American system in many of your postings. But, that said, my response to those here who would criticize the NHS would simply be this -- Such a thing has not been proposed in the U.S., so why do you care how it's done in Britain? Then, if pressed, challenge them to provide evidence that such a plan exists. They won't be able to, so you may have to prepare yourself for innuendo and hyperbole.

As for the PMer, ignore him/her. We have our idiots just like you have yours.

I have been over and seen how people live, my fiance does not like the health care system there, but prefers ours.

I haven't lived in the U.S yet but eventually I will but i've heard so many horror stories about the cost involved. We definately take the NHS for granted here.

When did the UK become a socialist country? Its news to me, I'll have to call me mam in Yorkshire and let her know, she will be sooooooooo suprised!
First socialized medicine and now this, who knew?
What happened to Gordon Brown and the Labour Party? Who's in charge now? Putin?
Thank goodness I still live in the country of Capitalism in the good 'ol US of A!
Oh! and a tip to the young socialist lass, when you come to live in the states, for crying out loud shave those legs and underarms before you come here, just not acceptable to Americans!
