Alas, I did not make that delightful fairy confection. I make wicked good cakes but I'd never commit to 3 hours to just decorate one of them! LOL

That photo came from a website where cupcake bakers were in competition with each other for some grand prize.

Sorry if this is a bit late but the Q has not been answered.

The Christmas tree was introduced by Queen Victoria's husband, prince Albert, who was german. The German Christmas tree was originally a pagan object with a representation of a wood sprite or fairy, who lived in the tree.

This would not do at Christmas, of course, so has been replaced by the similar -appearing angel or, more simply, a star.

I have been known to put the grinch on top of the tree and one year a star...no angels for me..but yes, the tree is of pagan origin...

Henceforth, the top of my tree here in England will boast either a fairy ( I am thinking some years perhaps even a nice cardboard cut-out of DA-VID from Little Britain LOL) or . . . the Grinch!
