A guy who's lived in Los Angeles longer than most of us have been alive, studies urban planning for a living, and tours the country giving speeches on urban planning has completely irrelevant opinions when it comes to LA's urbanity. I'm seriously curious as to why people aren't paying you guys to write books, write articles and give lectures. Certainly your opinion is more relevant than his.
So they're not opinions? Sorry, but they are. I posted facts. Feel free to address them.
D.C. core density struggles to match the density of an actual L.A. suburb (the Valley). You have no idea how much that amuses me.
I'm not sure why this was directed at me. I genuinely think a 25 year old rap video would finally advance this discussion in a meaningful way.
After analyzing Young MC's 1989 video for "Bust a Move" I've come to the conclusion that LA lacks urbanity. Not one scene of anyone walking out of a dense urban tenement to go buy a mixtape from a guy on the corner in that whole video. Although in the video for "Principal's Office" he is seen running to school--so apparently people do walk or run in LA to get around occasionally.
Here's another fact. DC has a higher population density than LA. You have no idea how much that amuses me.
L.A. core 60 sq miles doubles up on D.C.'s 620k population quite easily. Dont even entertain that our capital is denser, you'll flat out embarrass yourself. D.C. might surpass the VALLEY's density, but its a photo finish, let me tell ya.

So in a lower-density DC I get a vastly superior public transit system and an "active street life" in "tightly knit urban neighborhoods?"
There's not a YouTube link to a shopping mall you guys could find? I know there has to be vibrant pedestrian life somewhere in Los Angeles.
There is none. Zero. You win.
