For those that have a Master's degree in City/Regional/Urban planning - where did you get your degree from, what was the official degree title, and what do you do now as a career/occupation?

I know a kid that's currently getting his master's in urban planning at UNC, but no idea what he plans to do...It seems to be a very niche area of study, I wish I knew more people in the field!

I have a Master of Urban Planning degree from Texas A and M. I'm the Planning Director for a Central Texas city. Prior to that I worked at a planning consulting firm. When I got my degree in 2001 work was pretty easy to find. Now, not so much.

Fascinating subject. Can you recommend me a book on the history of urban planning?

I have my MCRP from Rutgers.

I haven't been able to sniff a job since I graduated.

Ended up going back to work in my original field (Environmental Consulting).

Considering going back and getting more schooling.

Fun program and interesting, but won't necessarily equal a job.

The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs isn't so much a book on the history of city planning as it is an indictment on what was considered "modern" planning in the 1950s and 60s. It looks at how traditional urban neighborhoods function and are structured so that planners can work to replicate these characteristics in new developments.

I got my MUPP at the University of Illinois in Chicago just this past May. I concentrated in urban transportation and now work in a transit scheduling department.

in other news, it's been so long since I regularly posted on here, this forum didn't exist then - i'm digging it!
