there is this stereotype of liberals only wanting to be in communities which are 'diverse'
(which seems to be mostly true)
I'm not really asking if you prefer diverse over homogeneous but rather, the existence of such communities.
It seems like liberals celebrate when very white, upper class communities start to "diversify" (whether that added diversity is from race, religion, even income!)
As far as diversity goes , for stereotypical liberals its 'the more the merrier'.
( I want to stress the point that it is a stereotype because I don't want to put words in people's mouths )
I'm not arguing against people who vote democrat, but rather, I'm criticizing these utopian liberals who prioritize diversity.
People choose where to live based on a variety of factors. Personally my only issue is to block anyone from moving in. But to each their own and people can choose a more or less diverse area when deciding where to live.
I also feel a lack of any diversity limits perspective but again this is my personal belief so to each their own. But to me there is something to the you dont know what you dont know...
I think a lot of it has to do with considering the content of people's character to be more important than race, and finally abandoning the era when neighborhoods were racially segregated by force of law. I don't think it is anything that is limited to liberals--plenty of conservatives believe in the the free market, and figure that if you can afford to buy a house, your race shouldn't be an issue. Conservatives seem to oppose interference with people's property rights--what could be a greater restriction on your property rights than laws stating that you can't live in a certain neighborhood based on your race?
You can't argue with STATISTICS. "diverse" neighborhoods have higher crime rates. I challenge any politically correct person to prove otherwise.

So black ghettos have lower crime rates than diverse neighbourhoods? I don't have any stats at my fingertips to prove otherwise but it would surprise me.

There are plenty of "diverse" neighborhoods here in Southern California with lower than average crime rates.. although much of the diversity is in East Asian nationalities (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc.) Some people won't consider these cities (i.e. Irvine, CA) diverse because they don't have many blacks or hispanics but I never really understood why.
I'm Asian but I'm comfortable in any safe community that's majority White, majority Asian, or majority White and Asian. I won't live anywhere else (with rare exceptions.)
It's not how diverse the neighborhood is, but how poor. Poor neighborhoods tend to be high crime, and people associate the presence of nonwhites with poverty. Better economic circumstances tends to lower crime rates, regardless of the neighborhood's nationality. And racial homogeneity does not necessarily relate to crime rates--are racially homogeneous non-white neighborhoods low in crime?
