You must be well-travelled

I haven't visited this place but have visited nearby:

My initial feeling was, especially after trying to decipher the headstone (in English) lower right and looking at the vegetation, that it's either Australia or New Zealand. Looks more New Zealand. But that's as far as I get.

You beat me to the answer
Although something more traditional like this would have been my choice of the city's downtown skyline:

Actually, that's because I never really thought of this town as being part of Christchurch, I've always thought of it as being a town in its own right so I was hoping someone could name the actual town.

I see from looking at Wiki that it is apparently considered a suburb but I didn't realise that - I'm sorry. I have been to Christchurch only fleetingly back in the 80s (on the way to elsewhere) and considered this town to be just outside the city limits.

Still, Sluggo, as you are technically correct (with it being a suburb) it is thus your turn but just wanted to point out that I wasn't trying to be misleading. I thought I'd refrain though from giving the name to see if you can guess it before you have your next go (you will find it easily on google maps).

So it IS Christchurch. Lucky guess. The only place I see that is a suburb with a harbor is Lyttelton.

As part of my current job I was tasked to perform route surveys in a Cessna. Flew in here once; was surprised by the large building in the middle of a small city.

Yep, it's Lyttelton and that was the actual answer I'd been looking for - however, it is my fault for not realising it is now a suburb of Christchurch otherwise I wouldn't have posted it.

Anyway, back to your picture.
