In Pittsburgh, the vast majority of gentrification has been located in traditionally edgy, but fairly safe working-class white parts of the city. The main black neighborhoods (with the exception of East Liberty, and to an extent Garfield), have not seen significant gentrification.

Gentrification does bring crime, it does not bring usually gun crime like shootings, and murders, stabbings and so forth, but in gentry neighborhoods, robberies and burglaries are far too common since plenty of Yuppies have desirable goods like iphones and ipads, car breakins and lets not forget like ghetto people yuppies too need their drug fix.

Here in NYC the only white neighborhood that was gentrified is Greenpoint in Brooklyn, all other areas that were gentrified were either racially mixed areas like Parkslope and Williamsburg. Black nieghborhoods also gentrify aswell incase point Harlem and Bedford Stuyvesant, both are nations largest African American neighborhoods.
Gentrification is a good and a bad thing, it does help to get rid of the riff raf off the street, blighted areas become more lively, more single people move in bringing with them more tax revenue for services, if your lucky enough to own property one can get involved to make some money out of it. The bad side of gentrification is that its not racsit but its classist, if you dont have the money you cant play the part, academics is another, if you dont have an education like a college degree yuppies will shun you. Gentrification creates plenty of demand for housing, realestate prices begin to go up, landlords will divide a 1200sqft which once costed 1500 a month apartments into 600sqft studios which goes for 2000 a month per unit, another thing about gentrification is jobs, if your a local you will have to compete with these out of towners for jobs and they will have a greater chance of being hired over you.
