VX2013: The Smart Grid - Real or Hype? | The Planning Report

Here’s one thing: in my view, an advanced grid that doesn’t serve customers better is showmanship, not smart. Just widgets. A true smart grid, I assert, will integrate advanced intelligence from the generator to the customer and everywhere in between.

A 'smart grid' developed under the auspices of saving energy (and ostensibly the 'Earth'), will actually reward customers in overall total lower cost - i.e. real $aving$ - versus what all the efforts to date have been. Efforts to increase per unit pricing for the ENERGY Provider and lower THEIR capital operating costs through labor reduction in conjunction with greater ability to monitor individual users (a potential invasion of privacy).

Virtually everything proposed is dedicated to maintaining the outdated century old centralized distribution model of the 'regulated monopolies'. This is only a '$mart' grid for the Companies and NOT the consumer. Smart Grid as currently promoted = HYPE.
