I got to thinking about this topic when that density thread started. Our mod says, correctly I believe, that few people on this forum are urban planning professionals. I got to wondering just how much some of our intrepid members do know about the urban planning process.
Haha well, click fail, have attended not in the last year. I haven't in many years, generally waste of time when I can review the minutes and see if there's anything I'm interested in.

I'd say reading the minutes counts. I am going to try to edit this poll to make the questions clearer.
Looks like I can't edit the poll. Just "assume" that a check means "yes".
I know Mayor Robert Parisi, because he's constantly doing reverse 911 calls for reasons both trivial (parade will close a street) and important (boil water alerts, Sandy shelter info) and he makes sure to mention his name every time. I've met a couple of the council members, but that's as far as it goes.
I know who the mayor is; have immunized his kids! (That's what happens in a small community, be it a suburb or whatever.) I used to know my councilpeople; don't now. I used to go to lots of meetings when my kids were in gymnastics at the local rec center and we were constantly pleading with them to build some more facilities. The last meeting I went to was last summer, to discuss the possibility of building condos/a natural food store on the site of an old Safeway.
In many suburbs, residents don't know who the mayor is but know the mayor of the central city. Many never attend board meetings, except, perhaps when they hear of new development proposal.
Were the people who showed up mainly those who were opposed to it for one reason or another? Or was it more even?
Mostly opposed.
