Traffic has been a problem in cities since the dawn of time and likely will be unless someone devises some method of travel that does not take up volume between starting location and destination.
I'll remember that next time I'm on my bicycle on 7th avenue.
I would think that as I worked through traffic on my bike commuting through work. I am sure it pissed people off seeing me pass them as they sat in their cars stuck in traffic.

On 7th avenue in Midtown Manhattan, bikes don't get through either. It's a gridlock of pedestrians spilling out into the road, taxis, trucks, and buses. I try to avoid it. The point being that if too many people need to traverse too small a space, there's a traffic jam, regardless of mode.

In most places there are no choices except to take a car. So the only other choice is not to drive, which means, no job, which turns into no house, which will eventually translate into homelessness, which is unfeasible in our urbanized society. So technically, we don't have a choice-if we want to keep our freedoms, we have to take a car and thus have to contribute to traffic problems. It can be called a personal choice when everyone, whether in the suburbs or city, has access to multiple modes of transportation-heavy and light rail, buses, cars, biking, and walking.

Biking on the streets of Manhattan are for the mentally insane, I really don't know how you guys do it. I have seen plenty of bikers who clearly have no fear.
