I would say that Garden City is best described as "streetcar suburbia" or "inner suburbia".
While I agree exurb isn't the proper description, calling it 100% walkable isn't really true. It looks like it would around half an hour or longer to walk to the commercial district from virtually everywhere east of the country clubs/parks. I suppose you could walk to the LIRR station and take that into the commercial district, but considering downtown parking is probably free, I can't see anyone besides the elderly or maybe teens bothering to do this.
