Back in those days, Monty Wards were inevitably an "anchor" store for a shopping mall, along with Sears and Penny's, etc.
For some reason this particular Monkey Wards was next to, but not an anchor of, a mall. The mall has also been torn down; I believe the parcels were combined and the WalMart sits on both.
Most malls in the metro Denver area had a MW. The two we frequented the most have been torn down; one repurposed into a street mall, the other just gone.

This is what is the new Skyscraper on the location where the Chicago Flagship Store was on State and Adams St in downtown Chicago from the 1960s till final closing on 2000.
One of our big box store enclosed mall, which spent many years in decline, was recently sold to a real estate developer. The space has been mostly converted to offices: government and social services and it is 75% leases these days. It is not, by any stretch in a great part of town. Arguably the worst part of town. Still sold for $50M this week.
The Winchester, Virginia Montgomery Wards location is still empty and has been empty ever since the chain went out of business however the shopping center itself is still called Wards Plaza. Unfortunately Wards Plaza isn't doing so well as the "biggest" store there is a Family Dollar.
The Hagerstown, Maryland Wards at Valley Mall became a Sears not long after Wards had .

I remember the one in Albany NY as a child. We had a Montgomery Wards catalog store also in our home town all the way up into the 1980s. My wife purchased her wedding dress from MW, and still has it.

This one was in Schenectady in some mall-like structure that I think was torn down at some point. I don't remember one in Albany; then again I was in the area only for a limited time.
