Watched a show last night showing how they assemble construction cranes, one feature that got me wondering was the small space devoted to the operator that obviously had no room for a small toilet, surely these operators dont climb down and back up again if the need to use a bathroom as some of these cranes can be 300ft high. Do they just hold it if they need to go?

For the tower crane operators they pee in a bottle. I'm sure most of them are on a very careful diet.

I know a tower crane operator and asked the same question.

Answer: A bucket. If you need to #2, that's your only option. If you did have to, hopefully it was late in the shift.

Not involving a crane, but certainly limited "conveniences". Not sure I'd feel comfortable using the Port-A-Potty perched like this:

It is wise to make sure all pooping is done before climbing up to the operating booth, or the poop in the bucket is gonna be your roommate until the end of the shift where you will then have to climb down a ladder with it.

A construction worker friend of mine once told me, "If you're on a job site, and you pick up one of those 5-gallon buckets that feels like it's empty, but the lid is on tight, DON'T OPEN IT."
