"The truth: Trump's budget calls for the elimination of one program that some of the nation's 5,000 Meals on Wheels groups rely on: Community development block grants, a $3 billion program that started in the Ford administration to give states and cities more flexibility in how they combat poverty. . . . The majority of Meals on Wheels programs get most of their federal funding through the Administration for Community Living, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services that serves the elderly and disabled. That agency has a $227 million line-item for "home-delivered nutrition services." . . . Those programs are authorized though the Older Americans Act, a law so popular that its renewal passed Congress last year without any recorded opposition. And while Trump didn't single out that specific program, Health and Human Services will receive a 16% across-the-board cut."

There was at least one thread here on CD about this, with some people having some very negative opinions about the program.

Ah, the commuter train. Yes, some people take it and I see it go by my office every day - just 2-3 cars, and the route is also covered by various bus lines. It's unable to run due to landslides surprisingly often.
The run from Seattle to Portland is covered by Greyhound for $24, the Bolt bus for $14. In both cases it's under 4 hours, the same as the train or faster.

isn't the commuter train Sounder not Amtrak? Train could come out ahead if you're one of the few that live near in-between stations, where buses don't serve. Cheap buses generally run express between big cities.

The sounder is a commute train run by Sound Transit, but people also commute on Amtrak, with Four daily round trips between Portland and Seattle, and Two daily round trips between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia. It can also be caught at stations closer in, such as Edmonds to Seattle, and in cooperation with Sound Transit takes some of the Sounder routes.

Cutting Off 'Fly-Over' States, Trump to Axe Amtrak for 220 Cities | Common Dreams

Perfectly illustrates how completely oblivious Trump is about most of the world. Trump, of course, has a private plane and has never had to give a thought to how most people travel. People who are stuck traveling by bus will be in trouble if those bus lines gets federal funding, if Trump's thoughts ever turn in that direction.

When is the proposal to eliminate all plane travel subsidies especailly from Washington to Florida going to be enacted?

While I'm at it, how about eliminating all federal highway funds? Another bottomless pit. There are too many roads and too many that can't be fixed that the trucking industry gets a pretty much free ride out of.

We should sell the Amtrak Train system to Die Bahn for $1 and help them establish more train connections. Train systems work better as they are more interconnected.

Actually it's "Deutsche Bahn"
Does that include building a tunnel between the US & Germany?? Maybe we can get Mexico, er, Germany to pay for that also.

We were talking about AMTRAK as the original post, not about meals on wheels. So who said we thought AMTRAK was more important?
