There is a big difference depending on the city. Entry Level Planner 1 in San Francisco, for example pays $82,000, probably not enough to live on there, but in one small city north of us in Washington state they only pay $54,000 but that would put you in the top 10% of incomes there. In the small city where I live Assistant Planner starts at $60,000, and goes up to $82,000. Senior Planner, requiring 4 years experience starts at $68,000 and goes up to $94,000. Where I work we are not a "city" but a public agency, and we have planners that start at $83,000, go up to $125,000 but even the starting salary requires 3 years experience.
