ART FESTIVAL THE BIGGEST IN ITS HISTORY

People gather around The Bowl at the Athena Museum of Performing Arts & Poetry during a performance from ACDC.

Today was the day that many people got excited over. That day was the annual Athena Festival of Art. This year's festival attracted the largest amount of people in its history, with over 2.6 million people coming to the event. It pumped $76 million to the local economy, $22 million above the estimates made by economists. This has gotten many city officials excited about the other upcoming festivals & events.
"This is really good news for the city", said Anna Wilder. "It seems like nothing ceases to surprise me in Athena."
Two popular musical icons performed concerts at the Athena Festival of Art, one from ACDC and another one from Madonna. An estimated 26,483 came to the ACDC concert, and 32,536 came to the Madonna concert. Both have stated that they will perform again at the next festival.

OTHER AREA NEWS

Phase I of the Tenderloin Redevelopment Project is now open. This includes a park, the Tenderloin Park, built on a former elevated rail line, with the railroad tracks and rocks incorporated into the design. The whole project costs an estimated $3.8 billion, and the whole project won't be complete until 2019.

Tenderloin has gone through some of the largest amounts of gentrification in Athena. In 1980, only a few thousand people lived in the area. As of 2009, over an estimated 63,000 live in the Tenderloin neighborhood.

The Sherman Park mixed-use development has been approved for groundbreaking and construction. The vote was 14 to 1, and construction is set for January 2010.
