Not all mass transit is muggy, filthy, and full of wierdos.. The D.C. metro is comfortably clean and full of professionals..

And I can’t stand constantly pouring fuel into a gasoline-thristy automobile, dragging this mass of rubber and metal around with me everywhere I go, constantly having to worry about parking, sitting in rush hour traffic breathing in air polluted with exhaust, and being at the mercy of thousands of other drivers, many of whom drive so poorly they should have never been issued a license.

In other words, you can't stand being in the city. You prefer the suburban life? Correct?

I was under the impression that only one line in Chicago runs 24/7 and that's the Brown Line. The rest shuts down. And most of DC's bus lines run 24/7 too. You just have to travel within the city for that.

Still, you seem to have it out for cities and that's your preference but if you lived in a major urban area where traffic was a big issue, you would have to plan to drive to the store or go the mall during certain times of the day. Mass transit provides an ALTERNATIVE to driving. In most large cities, the trains run every few minutes during rush hour. Your perception of transit is funny because when I am on the train in DC, I tend to look out the window at the legions upon legions of cars stuck in traffic, and I say to myself, why do they put up with the wear and tear, gas, accidents, etc....LOL
