Hi all,

We are looking to see if Utah would be a good place for us to relocate. We are currently living in Florida in Highlands County. While nice in some respects, Highlands county is considered the oldest (in age of population) county in the nation. As such the elderly population here is very high. We have a young son and like to do outdoor activities, in addition my wife is Chinese so...

Where is a city which would have:

Outdoor and natural/nature activities close by (hiking, fishing, scenic, etc)
Large population of Chinese (for my wife to associate and make friends)
Good schools.
Other, community activities (festivals, etc)

I'm a computer professional (programmer, hardware, software) and my wife has experience with Accounting.

Oh, I'm also an avid Jeep dude.

Thanks in advance,

BillyBob.

Hi, Billy Bob. Well, I believe that Utah has the nation's youngest population, so that much is a plus. The outdoor activities within a half an hour of Salt Lake City are unparalleled anywhere in the country and five national parks are within a half a day's drive from us. There are quite a few community activities, a lot of them geared to kids. The schools here are good; I wouldn't say they're excellent. (It's been so long since my kids were in school, though, that I'm probably not going to be your best resource on schools.) There is not a large Asian population here, but I can tell you that Asian people are, as a rule, quite highly regarded here. I'm in IT myself (about to retire); the job opportunities here in IT are reasonably good, but again, where in the country are they excellent right now? I can't think of anywhere where they are.
