I think the perceived negativity is common on other state forums as well. It may be only because one is paying particular attention with concern towards these issues with Utah that it is noticed. I noticed when I spent some time on the Arkansas forum, I think it was, there was a lot of negativity/frustration with stereotypes and bashing and that sort of thing.

I think if you look at most city/area forums on CityData, there is a lot of native/local self-bashing going on. I think it might be the nature of these forums.

Actually, I think it's just that we're just trying to be objective, as odd as that may sound. We could sing the praises of Utah all day long, only to have you move here and find out that there actually are some negatives. I know that I often hesitate to over-emphasize the good things about Utah for fear of responses suggesting I take off my rose-colored glasses. I absolutely LOVE Utah, but it's not perfect, and I would hope that anyone considering moving here know that we Utahns recognize that.

That is a good point, I know when I was looking at Utah a few of you had me rather nervous once we decided to more here. In a way that may be good because it has far exceeded my expectations.

Positive... hmmm.

Fairly low crime rate in most cities. Not completely overpopulated once you get away from the Wasatch front (there is still some small-town atmosphere). Family-friendly for the most part. Mountains are nice and green. With the exception of summer, the climate is alright. The skiing is good if you go on an off day. Okay... I've been positive today.

Well thank you everyone. I appreciate hearing the good and the bad. I do want to be well prepared for everything when I move and know what to expect.

What do you mean, with the exception of summer? When it's summer, the climate is PERFECT!

Only when camping at 9000 ft in the Uintahs or Wasatch Plateau and along comes one of those midsummer snow showers!

The season I call "hell" is almost over for the year. Then it's back to the good stuff.

Well Chris and Katz, if you both worked for the same company and shared an office I have the feeling the Air Contitioner Wars would be epic....LOL

Here's another plus for Utah, the property taxes. Some of those brick bungalows in the Sugarhouse / Liberty Park area if the home is 1500 square feet or under (actually this seems to be one of the few areas you can find homes this small) can be as low as....

$900.00 per year...no for you east and west coaster's this is not a typo, I'll spell it out NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS A YEAR........

There's a 3000 square condo listed up in the "Alta Approach" complex, taxes listed....$5,000.00 and the place looks like the lap of luxury, I think the complex is even gated. This seems high end for Salt Lake taxes.

Where I am, this is the tax starting point.....
