Atlas Tailings is NOT polluting Moab's water supply, Moab gets their water from springs in Spanish Valley (by Old City Park). The tailings pile IS polluting the water supplies of everyone downstream of the Colorado River, though, including places like San Diego. Moving the pile is in process. But how much radioactivity has been blown from the pile into town? I've heard that Moab has a higher incidence of leukemia than similar sized towns (except Monticello, which is off the charts because of their own tailings pile), but haven't seen anything to substantiate this (unlike Monticello, which has been documented).

I'm in Moab right now and it's wonderful, no snow, no tourists, beautiful, but you would HATE it if you're looking for work.

I have to add that what I love about Moab isn't the town, it's the countryside around it. I would like it here even more if the town were gone (and I could get groceries and supplies airdropped). Acemoab is 100% correct in his/her assessment, you have to come with money to make it here unless you're like Terwillinger (sp) and part of the original ones and thereby have your house paid for.

Thank you--kind of the way I felt, both on the thread, and about visiting vs living in Moab
