Default New to Utah

My husband and I moved to Hurricane last February. It is absolutely gorgeous and we love it! Anyone in the Hurricane area?

I'm not, but know the area well. Hope you don't mind wind. Hurricane should boom, so buy land!
Do yourself a favor and hike Angel's Landing in Zion's. Go up just before sunrise. It will take your breath away.

Thanks for your response Marv....I'll take your advice and check that out! We have learned to deal with wind, as bad as it gets out here....it's not that bad compared to where we moved from. We decided to leave Kissimmee Florida after being hit by 3 hurricanes and got out of there before the 2005 season. I have already seen some pretty incredible winds here and now understand how Hurricane got it's name Originally we were trying to move to St George but the realtor thought we could get more house for our money out here. He was right and we absolutely love it! It is growing quickly, you're so right!

Good choice. Hurricane is beautiful. Since you're (relatively) in the area, make SURE you take the opportunity to visit the Utah Shakespearean Festival up in Cedar City sometime! I don't mean to advertise :P , but you're lucky to be so close - my friends and I drove for six hours just to see one show. It's that good. The plays run all summer and fall, and the 2006 lineup looks great! Anyway, welcome to Utah. Glad you're safe from the Florida weather.

Thanks Lucy! We have heard about that but didn't get up there in 2005. I'm sure we'll go up this year, we've already taken a drive up to Cedar City. Believe it or not, we still haven't been to Mesquite and would like to go there also. It sounds like it's growing quickly too. There is so much to see out here, I feel like we've got the best of ALL worlds! You mentioned that you drove 6 hours, it must be a fantanstic show and I promise...we won't miss it this year!

My grandparents live in hurricane for a better part of the winter because it is too cold in Pleasant Grove. So they are down there right now.

Utah is an amazing place, I have lived here for 21 yrs, and have only seen half of the sights. There are som many places to see and go that you could live here a lifetime and not see it all. Not many states can say that. If ya'll like backpacking, look into Coyote Gulch (Jacob Hamblin's Arch), Robbers Roost (San Rafeal Swell). Other great places, Kapital Reef, Zions National Park, Canyonlands Ntl park, Moab, Bryce Canyon Ntl park..... the list goes on...

If I was giving you info you already knew or don't care about, sorry, I just love UTAH! The best section of the United states for Eye Candy! (Wyoming too)

HI Rob, please feel free to tell me all about the area. We feel very fortunate to be here and actually drove through Zion to get to our new home, thanks to Mapquest! The landscape is awesome...we have already had friends visit and they couldn't believe the view from our home. It's great to know that there are so many places close by that we can visit. I'll add the ones you've mentioned...to my list. Thanks so much for your input

Default Hurricane, Great choice!!!

I've driven all over Southern Utah and absolutely love it! I've been through Zion, Bryce, Cedar City, Lake Powell, St. George, etc. I wouldn't be able to stand the humid, hot weather and hurricanes of the southeast. You made an excellent choice by going to Hurricane. The property is booming down there. You'll love the drive down the 15fwy south to Mesquite, NV. The gorge and virgin river are really neat. Mesquite is a nice little place to gamble. I live in the Salt Lake Valley and really miss palm trees, coming from So California!

I couldn't stand the humidity in Florida. I have my suspicions about the health problems that people are having there. Mold is a huge problem!
My hubby and I are trying to plan a little drive out to Mesquite. We are not really gamblers but would love to see the area and have a nice brunch. Do you know of any good places to stop for brunch? I know the casinos have a reputation for putting out a nice spread

Pahrump/ Mesquite.. Brunch? Yes, in Mesquite, Virgin River, Oasis Hotel & Casino, or Casablanca Casino too. I believe they are all owned by the same 2 brothers.
I love Mesquite and Pahrump, Nevada, 3 hrs away from Hurricane, they are fun places to go. I love going into these small towns and there is alot to do. YOU meet the nicest people in Pahrump as well. They are all within driving distances back to Ut., Nv., Az. Co. borders. Check with the Towns Chambers of Commerce.
