I find Utah to be pretty safe where I live. But, that is me. =) As for meth, if anyone thinks Utah is bad, check out where I used to live, Akron, OH. I copied & pasted the section below.
Over 20 meth lab seizures occurred in the year 2005. In 2004, over 25 percent of the State’s methamphetamine lab seizures reported to EPIC occurred in Summit County, Ohio (Akron, OH area – 43 labs seized).
FWIW, most of those seizures were in the Kenmore area of Akron, where I'm from, & my parents still live. =*(

A new report from the Utah Foundation shows that the state's crime rates fell below the national average in 2006, making it the first time since the early 90s.The bad news is the state ranked 21st in the country in the rate of forcible rape, although that is down from its rank of 13 in 2004.

Additionally, I worked on a joint task force to rid East Palo Alto, CA of gangs, which ran the murder rate of that city over 2 homicides a day for 18 months. For nearly two years, E. Good point. In Colorado Springs there were 28 homicides in 2008 and 18 so far this year. This is in a city of 400,000 that is considered by many to be a very "safe" community. Murder is serious but 21 in a state of over 2 million would be considered envious by most.

Yeah, although murder is aweful, 21 in an entire state is not too bad at all. I mean Chicago averages 300+ a year, and it is about the same size as Utah.

And Baltimore in 2006 had 276 and in 2007 there were 282 just for the city..that doesn't count the state which is an 1/8th of what Utah is. They don't call it the "City that Bleeds" for being nice..lol..in April 2008 there were already 54 murders....
