My brother and sister-in-law are considering taking a job in Utah and he would be working for the Federal Govt. for the first time working for an Indian tribe. My understanding is that if you work for the Feds they do not take Federal taxes out of your paycheck, is that correct or not? How does that work with taxes? Also what type of medical and dental do you have? Deductable? How much is paid by the insurance co? Does every Federal employee have the same type insurance? Thanks.

I am a former government employee. I currently work for a government contractor, with some government employees. I myself am now private sector.

Yes they take federal taxes out of the paycheck. The only things in life that are certain are death and taxes ...

Health insurance is quite good. I paid about $200 a month for very comprehensive coverage. No deductable. The government contributed about $600 a month. In Washington DC, there were several plans to choose from. Utah has Blue Cross as a PPO and Altius as an HMO I believe. I didn't take dental insurance. Honestly can't remember if it was offered. But my insurance plan did have bi-annual cleanings etc.

I used to work for the company that managed the mental health benefits for Altuis...and other companies as well. The Federal employees always had the BEST coverage of anyone I ever saw. Disney employees were close but not as good as Federal.

Fed. Gov. is an employer like any other. Retirement plan plus Social Security and Medicare are taken out of check and all ordinary income taxes just like anyone else. Plan like a 401K also.

Good health plans, good leave policy and depending on the agency lot of advancement.

There is a huge IRS service center in Ogden.
