Default Urgent Help! Commuting from Park City to Bountiful

Hello,

I was hoping someone could help me get a real sense of commuting from Park City to Bountiful (not every day but regularly). I see on Mapquest it would take aprox. 50 minutes, but how realistic is that during rush hours and winter? and what is the rush hour window typically?

Any information would be extremely helpful! Thank you very much!

JN

First of all, Park City is EXPENSIVE! Secondly communting from same to Bountiful would necessitate a trip down the mountain on I-80, then thru the interchanges onto I-15, thru the heart of SLC and then north thru the often bottle-necked area of North Salt Lake to Bountiful---and in the winter you'd be dealing with snow.

Do you have to travel that route?

I lived in Park City and communted to classes at the Uof Ut. Winter was a nightmare. Often it is down to one lane and treacherous. I spent a few nights in SLC at friends places while my family were alone up the mt.

Default not an easy commute

It is about 45 miles to Bountiful from PC. Rush hour is typically 7am through about 8:30am...but downtown traffic builds up by 630am. You'll be commuter traffic until you get to I-15...but then you are actually going against traffic northbound to Bountiful. Snowstorms make I-80 a big mess...luckily there are only a few a year.

You have no other option than I-80 until you get into the Salt Lake Valley. Once through Parleys Canyon, you can stay on I-80 and take I-15 North. OR...once through Parleys Canyon, you can take Foothill St/1300E/South Temple to Rt 89...onto Bountiful but I doubt it would save you much time.

However it's all relative...I had a 70 min commute when I lived in NY. Now my 40 min from Layton is a snap :-)

Good luck!!

Default Depends on what you're used to...

Park City to Bountiful really isn't that bad.... but it depends on what you consider a BAD commute... I lived in the DC metro area for a while... it was HORRIBLE... if you're from DC, California, or New York.... traffic in Utah will be a breeze.

To get from Park City to Bountiful you have to go down Parleys Canyon... if you can do it in mid-day... you're probably looking at little to no traffic. The worst part of the commute would be returning from Bountiful to Park City during the evening Rush hour. Normally you could probably make the drive in 45 minutes. During a bad rush hour, that might double. Also, there will probably be a couple dozen days per year where snow storms will cause a problem... but overall, if you only make the commute a couple of times per week, you won't be in too bad of shape.

Default Bountiful

Do you already live in Park City? That's a pretty heavy commute in clear weather, but add in some snow and it can be nasty. There are some areas near the canyon in Bountiful that are wooded/mountain setting and very "Park City" like. The Hollows near Mueller Park Canyon would be nice for your commute if you have a choice of places to live. If not, wait for good weather.
