It's in Utah county which is very heavily populated by LDS if that matters to you or not. If you are LDS, you will fit in just fine, and if you are not LDS, you will fit in just fine too. I am not, and have had no problems here. I've been here 8 months and I am not beseiged with everyone trying to "convert me". In fact, I've only had missionarys at my door once, and then the local bishop stoped by once as well. Both times, they simply introduced themselves, and offered any assistance. No religious talk at all.
I am very very happy with the school (high school) and my daughter has made many friends. Coming from CA like I did, I was surprised that I had to pay for her to go to public school--book fees--security deposit--and lab fees for a total of 234.00 but other than that I really have no concerns. And she doesn't have to pass through metal detectors any more so she's happy about that.
As for snow....it snows here that's for sure, but I wouldn't say it is a lot. I think the most was back in Dec or Jan and we got about 6 inches.
Wherever you decide to move to though.....check out everything first...go to the city yourself and do your homework, walk through some neighborhoods and talk to people you see outside.
I was always told that Saratoga Springs being so close to the lake had a huge problem with bugs in the summer...so far I have not found that to be the case.
Good luck with your move.

Theres metal detectors in high schools in California? Since when do school officials think they have the right to scan people of their persons?

LOL...yes there are metal detectors to get onto the campus, which is a closed campus with at least one full time deputy, sometimes with a k-9 unit.
There are lockers provided to the students to share with a least one other student, and they are subject to search at any time. Also, the students themselves are subject to search as well as their personal belongings. If you need to pick up your child early for a Dr. appointment, you have to go to the office, and register, show ID and wait for someone to escourt your child to the office.
The really funny thing is, we lived in an up-scale little town that was not close to any major crime areas.....200 miles outside of L.A.!
California has it's problems, there is no doubt, but after living there for so long, you become so acustomed to the "laws" of what you can and can't do, that it makes it very difficult to live somewhere else, and adjust.
I remember when we got here, I wouldn't move into my new house, until after the alarm company came in and installed the system....I was too terrifed to sleep without it!!! It's funny now, when I think about it, but it was what I was used to.....

At my high school we also have to share lockers with other students, and we have two police officers and once in a while we have a k-9 unit here. What high school did your child attend?

Utah towns
Monticello and Blanding are 20 minutes apart.Monticello is right at the base of the Abajo Mountains, plenty of snow 3 small lakes within 20 minutes,3 hours from Lake Powell.Right now Monticello has only about 2000 people(Blanding just over 3000)but A liberal arts college will be opening fall
2012 which will more than double the size of Monticello.Great schools, low crime and within 5 hours of 5 state and national parks.I moved here from phoenix about 18 months ago and have NO regrets.Let me know if you neeed more exact info on the area.

This may come under some fire, but I'm going to suggest Nephi. It fits the criteria, and it's still close to everything.

I'm trying to locate a friend I met several years ago at Rick's College in Idaho. Her name Is Valerie Pincock. I was her brother's (Eddie) roommate at Rick's. I haven't see her or talked to her in year's and I wanted to see how she is doing? I heard she is married and living in Monticello, Utah. Does anyone know her? My name is Bruce from Boise, ID.
