Bail Information (paid, jail, time)

Hi, first time poster. I need some information on bonds. Internet isn't helping much 'cause I get conflicting information.

I have a family member in jail that I want to bail out. I do not want to go through a bondsman, so here's my question:

If I front the full bail in cash, when do I get it back? Do I get it back as soon as the inmate makes their court appearance? I'm assuming there will be a fine involved with the sentencing, and some sites seem to suggest that if a fine is owed, that it may be taken from the bail posted. Is that accurate? I've also seen sites suggesting that you won't get the bail back until the case is closed (as in if there are fines, until they're paid, you won't get the bond back). Is that true?

Talk to the court where the charge is filed. They should be able to tell you that...
