I hate shuttles in National Parks. But I see where they are necessary, and even convenient. Here's a pretty fair article about the Zion Shuttle. Keep in mind that the shuttle is for those going into Zion Canyon only. You can still drive through the park on Utah Rt. 9 and pass through the tunnels.

Zion is so pretty, nice little trip away from Vegas. I think the shuttles are convenient- they run continously so you can get off & on where ever they stop. We never caught any that were too full nor did we have to wait long.

I think we were allowed to take our dogs at one time, too.

The shuttles are really a non issue there. Very prompt and constantly running. I'm really looking forward to going back. You could spend years exploring that entire national park.

Sign up for the ride with a ranger shuttle that leaves around 5:30 at night. It is a special 1 and a 1/2 trip that stops at a few extra spots and has some great info. I signed up in the info center in the morning. It fills quick.

I believe those days are over. They have a one mile path, just inside the Park, where you can walk your pets. That's it!

I took my ferret with me up to Zion in June, and knowing the restrictions, I left him at the motel.

Their rationale is that the pets can be disturbing to the wild animals up there.

And aren't humans, basically, animals as well?

I seriously love the shuttles. They come SO frequently that there is hardly any wait time. You don't have to deal with spending half an hour looking for a parking place. Instead, you can be off seeing the park.

We went to Zion in late Sept when the shuttles were still on. They were actually very convenient. We stayed in Springdale and had a great time, probaly my most fav vacation.
