They, the plygs, use to have Vermillion Cliffs egg farm. It is no longer around. Guess it laid an egg.

Ok, quick question getting back to my question which was rather off-topic in itself, I hear that FLDS are extremely racist. That's why I asked if they'd have more of a tendency to shoot at "people of color" roaming around sightseeing in either of the two towns? Does anybody have any input on the accuracy of the FLDS and racism? Or perhaps I should ask more directly, would my friends be safe driving around Hilldale or Colorado City just to look around? I really didn't know what to tell them.

You will have no problems. It is nothing like Big Love on TV where they show you being followed and pulled over. This is a very small town, where the locals stay indoors most the time. You can drive through it like any other town and not have a bit of trouble. They will if they see a unfamiliar car coming, will go inside. That is it. Nothing to worry about. You physically have to turn off the hwy to go through town. Not much to see. a bunch of big houses partially finished. Lots of sage brush, no dogs, and little activity. More like an inhabited ghost town.

Thanks for the input, Blondie. I'll pass that info to them.
Out of curiosity, how many non-FLDS live in the two towns? ...if any.

Not many non flds there. But there is a community college that serves this end of the state in Colorado City, the AZ side of town. Most the teachers live other places.

Really, a community college? It's in Colorado City and serves southern Utah?
So are there other communities or towns around those "twin cities" where the non-flds live?
Thanks again.

Moccasin is the closest town, right next to Pipe Springs National Monument. A little further east is Fredonia. To the west there is Apple Valley. Not much on the Strip as we call it around here. Most live in Hurricane or Kanab. There is a small dirt road (4x4 type) that will take you from Rockville by Zion National Park to Hilldale/Colorado City. It is in places not a good road for a car. It is also not the road for those faint of heart with heights. If it rains, stay off it. The community college is called Mohave community college. Except for a handful of people on the AZ side of the line out on the strip, the rest of those who would go to that CC, are in Utah. That is why it has it's largest enrollment from Utahans. It's a small college, geared more to two year trade degrees.
