Hello Kim, I f you havent already done so, entertaining the thought of sewnding your child to Sorensons Ranch school, Would be a thought I would recommend. I was sent there at the age of 14. I was habitually running away from home, completely disobedient and disrespectful to my parents. Going there got me out of the element and away from the negative influence, and showed me that my home life wasnt bad at all.

To speak for myself now, I have followed in my fathers footsteps and am a Deputy Sheriff. I have 2 beautiful children and value my family above all. I cant say I owe it all to the ranch, but would who knows where I would be today had my parents not made that decision.

Feel free to message me, or ask any questions should you have any.

Justin

I'd take the above link with a grain of salt - although all the other information about the ranch may be true, clicking on "LDS Church" takes you to a website stating how the church is a cult.

Lmejh,

You edit for grammar?

I'm glad you are so respectful of others reading your posts, let alone yourself. Most of us don't work that hard.

Glad you are in my neck of the woods.

BTW - I agree with your post. I don't know anything about the ranch, except was impressed someone was actually asking about Koosharem, since I know a family there. However, I totally agree with you. Get more information and opinions when considering options for a teen.

Everyone has their own experience, I can't say one is "more right" or "less wrong," than another because I don't know. I have no idea the rate of turnover (if any) of staff and what is expected ot the parents on the outside etc. It seems like every situation would be somewhat unique.

I'd encourage those who want to know more about the facility to contact those who have offered to share their views privately and assess what feels right for them.

Good luck with this tough decision, Kim Rebel. The one general comment I feel safe saying is a family doesn't reach this point of thinking of where to place a son without some very difficult circumstances leading up to it. Make sure you feel right about the decision you make for your family.

MSR

Kim, if you are still thinking of sending your son to Sorensons, I sent my son there. He finished 11th and 12th grade and the results were worth it. He is now 19 recently married and is in the Navy.He wouldn't have stayed out of trouble without the changes that Sorensons School instilled in my son. It was hard at times not having your son at home but I know he would have ended up in jail without there help.

I would strongly recommend Red Cliff Ascent wilderness program in Enterprise, Utah. The biggest problem with these treatment program is the use of restraints and seclusion. At Red Cliff you will not run into these kinds of problems. The counselers and therapists are well trained and for the most part a gentle group.
