Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure if this should have been submitted to the Arizona or Utah forum, anyways I was just wondering, are you able to camp over night in the middle of the desert out here without any issues as long as it isn't on Native land? Or would someone recommend a hotel or town nearby to get a hotel in? Also is it safe to camp out there and how cold does it get at night in May?

Thanks for the help.

If it's BLM land you can camp on it except in designated "special" areas - which are typically noted with signage. Campfires may be seasonally restricted and building new fire rings is discouraged so use existing ones if possible. Also, you're supposed to camp within 300 feet of an existing "open route" dirt road if in a vehicle.

I've been out dry camping this month on BLM land and it was the first time I've done so as early as April. I got snowed on once and was in freezing temps some of the nights (this was in S. Utah). May is most always more stable and warmer (and downright pleasant) in S. Nevada and S. Utah.

Might be a funny question, but where did you go to the bathroom? Gas station nearby or something? Thanks for the information. Looks fun!

Take only pictures and leave only footprints - which means you pack everything out with you. I use sturdy used bulk vitamin bottles (like the large ones from Sam's/Costco) and empty them when at gas stations.
