Which way to go? (Price, Park City: hotel, home, price)

We are coming up from Texas and staying in Park City this summer. We are driving, and taking 3 days to get there. I love Colorado, and am planning on coming up through Durango, CO (just because I love it there). Would it be better to stay over a night in Grand Junction, CO or Moab, UT? It would just be for 1 night - and probably to look around the town/sites a little bit if time permits the next day before heading on up to Park City.

If we go via Grand Junction, CO, we can stay at a hotel using Hilton Honors points. If we stay in Moab, we would have to pay for a room there. Was thinking about The Gonzo Inn in Moab?

So would Moab be WORTH paying for a room for 1 night, if we weren't going there to see the national parks specifically? We will probably take our time around there given the shorter distance from there to Park City.

The drive up the western side of Colorado is stunning (i.e. Durango to Grand Junction), while the first part of the drive from Moab to Salt Lake couldn't be much uglier. It gets prettier as you go, and when you get near Price, it's actually very pretty. In all honesty, it would be hard for me to imagine spending the night in Moab and not seeing the Arches. Moab's a great little town -- one of the nicest in Utah, IMO, but no nicer than some of the ones you'd see on the "Million Dollar Highway" between Durango and Grand Junction.

Oh, Katzpur!!!! That's not helpful! Well, we will have to be driving back home at a point, so perhaps we will hit one on the way up and one on the way down!
