I have lived in west Texas my entire life and I even live in the same house I grew up in. But, the career opportunities here are nil and the pay is abysmal, being so close to the border.

I am LDS and have a 13-year-old son and Utah looks like a great place for my son to really enjoy the outdoors.

Just want to meet some people from Utah, and test the cyber waters.....

Kathy--

Before you make any plans, you should analyze the employment opportunities in the area where you plan on living.

Hello Kat,

I moved here to Utah 7 years ago from Canada. It's a wonderful state with a lot of diversity and fun things to do. I think it would be a great place for you to raise your son. The unemployment in Utah is very low so finding a job shouldn't be a problem. Ofcourse I wouldn't recommend moving before you secure a job. The pay is certainly not the highest compared to other places in the US but I think the quality of life makes up for it. Good luck in your decision!

Hi Kathy:

We moved here 3 months ago, with no jobs and a new house. We were both employed within 2 months. A lot of people say the pay is bad and homes are expensive, but I came from coastal Georgia, where the pay is worse and the houses are just as expensive.

Dispite some of our frustrations here, we love St George. It just will depend if you can support yourself here. There are $10.00 per hour jobs all over the place. I registered with some temporary agencies and got no where with them, but my particular talents weren't what they were looking for. You might want to contact them and see what they have to offer.
