i just moved back to springville from the east coast. springville is about as close as you can get to a republican dictatorship. but even here it is not that bad. the old people look at you funny if you talk about democrats, but the younger people--and there are quite a few of them with all of the college students here--tend to balance things out. my parents still live in the area, and my mom is about the most liberal person i know, a reformed democrat who listens to ac/dc, led zepplin, black sabbath, etc, and she absolutely loves it here.

aaron out.

Emu742,
Thanks for that info. Everyone has been so great and welcoming! My dh is actually in SLC today. He called from the airport and I asked him what it looks like and he said, "Very white!" Meaning the snow obviously. We just got snow yesterday for the first time but it rained last night so the grass is back.

If we end up taking the job most likely we will choose the Sandy/Draper area. It seems consistent with our way of life here. I'd love to hear names of some neighborhoods to look at. Lots of kids and stay at home moms, yards big enough to put a pool in and still play football!

oh! Does anyone recommend a kitchen design company. Each time we have moved I have sacrificed the kitchen. This time I'm not going to even look for a great kitchen, I'm just going to rip it at out and finally put in what I want! Is it hard to find good reliable workers out there? It is here.

Thanks for all your feedback!

^the newer houses that are on the higher end will have very nice kitchens. That is an important feature for people here who have large families (and have a very 'keeping up with the jones' mentality as well), but there are plenty of kitchen design companies here too! Never used one but I've seen them around!

I moved to UT is Sept and already want to leave! I am from CA but have also lived in MA and traveled through 18 of the states. The people here are very judgemental. Everywhere else I have lived, my neighbors are friendly and outgoing. I have not met one sincere person out here yet...ok except the people I work for who are not from here! I live in a community where if you are not LDS you are judged and cast aside. I am catholic as well. I grew up with people of all faiths and races and so I have just always been accepting of others. People here were nice for the first week until they realized I do not attend their church. The job market here is terrible and so is the income. The cost of living is not much cheaper then when I was in MA and I make about 3 times less here than I did in MA. UT is beautiful and does have a lot to do and see but nobody willing to share those things with you if you do not share their views. So if you love the mountains and the snow, don't mind a huge pay cut, and don't mind unfriendly neighbors, you will love it here! Oh and if you truely love animals, you won't like it here either. There is a lot of animal abuse and neglect here too! Trust me I see it every day at work. Animals are simply property here. Not too sure how much longer I can stay here, I'm thinking of heading back to the East Coast. Best of luck with your move, hope you find a friendlier place than I did!

That's what you get living in Lehi. Should have come here before you moved and read that most non LDS people recommend living nowhere outside the valley. It get's weird south of Draper and North of SLC it's like an LDS version of deliverance out there.

Hey Abstrakt,
so where in Utah do you live, my memory on these pages escapes me? And are you LDS or not? Do you like it or not? Thanks!

I can't think of any neighborhoods in particular at the moment that you should take a look at in Draper, but there are several that have been developed by recognized names (Ivory, etc.). I'll take a look the next time I'm out driving and take down numbers. If you want to build a custom home there are several lots for sale right now, including some right by the Summit Academy. I haven't checked this in awhile, but I'm glad that you are positive and not letting the negative comments about Utah intimidate you! And yes we have tons of snow right now! It's about 3 feet deep in our back yard right now - the biggest snow we have had since we've moved here. If you build, look into putting radiant heat under your driveway - your husband will be grateful for it everytime he sees the neighbors out shoveling theirs!

How old are your kiddos? I'm in western West Jordan, 'way out' as everyone tells me. LOL I love it here. I am Catholic & go to a nice Catholic in Copperton, not too far from us. Yes, I am 1 of maybe 2 families in my neighborhood who is NOT LDS. Everyone is very nice & friendly to us. =) The missionaries are kinda annoying, but, I deal. I'm just too nice to say 'go away', so I let them talk. My kids are 4yo son & 3yo daughter, & I am in a WONDERFUL group of Moms out here. We do stuff, mainly on the west side of the city 2-5 times a week. I knew no one moving here, & have made many friends. =) I know 2 people who live in Draper, 1 pretty well, the other a little. & a handful that live in Sandy. Both are nice places to live, too. =) Feel free to send me a pm. =)
