We are a family of four looking at relocating to the greater SLC area (as far south as Utah County, and as far north as Davis County). Can anyone say whether buying a home adjacent to an LDS meetinghouse (for example, being backyard neighbors) is a positive or negative? I'm asking primarily to get an idea of traffic, busy times of the day/week, and also with respect to a home's resale value. Thanks in advance for any insight!

It's usually not a problem except on Holy Smith of the Nightwatch every summer for six weeks... then the screaming, drumming, trumpet blowing, orgasmic moaning and multiple midnight goat sacrifices get kinda annoying (Think Burning Man but with more blood).

Seriously, they're churches... the blandest, most boring and least busy public buildings of all time. Unless you are a satan worshipper or vampire, they're pretty unobtrusive neighbors.

Bland, boring, and not busy sounds like a perfect neighbor, actually! And if they keep their grounds neat and well-groomed, all the better. Thanks, Chango!

Whatever you do , do not leave your windows of the car open when you park in your driveway.
Else you want the back seat filled with cucumbers and green peppers some days ...

I live across the road from a church. Just give some thought to your noise levels during meeting times.

I've lived in many different types of settings. Having a church for a neighbor has its plusses. Usually, that area is quiet and gives me more freedoms than two - ten more households across the street. Church's keep their grounds up much better than many neighbors

I don't know..they do proselitize and can be a bother, just as all those evangelicals.

We follow Balfegorians and do not proselitize among those without the signal. ROszenbergian XX.

Hahaha. You could be like the family who lives in my neighborhood. Their backyard faces the church parking lot. So they got a hot tub and hop in during the end of church. Scandalous.

Positive for a Mormon
Negative for about anyone else.
In SLC There are not that many LDS Churches because the LDS population is so low. (Though the general US public outside of Utah doesn't think that). Your best bet is Utah county. However there are negatives to living around a church, there is a lot of traffic on Sundays because of commuters to church, activities are held there and people at the church may go on or near your property and if you are a non-Mormon (you did not specify), you will find it hard to live near one. There are developing areas in Payson, Springville or Spanish Fork that have new churches near houses in suburbs if you wan't to live near one.

Um, there are PLENTY of LDS churches in Salt Lake. According to a quick look on yellowpages.com, there was a listing of 783 in the Salt Lake area alone. I am sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this is not a complete list.
