The midwest is beautiful, green, and flat.

Utah is beautiful, mountainous, and brown.

Combine the two and you have something really spectacular. Actually that's pretty much what the Cascades are.

The Midwest is beatuiful, but still not like anything you got over there! (or the Cascades for that matter) I hate it when people call the Midwest "fly over country", though. They have no idea what its really like. Michigan is one of my favorite states.

They call it that because that's what many people do, including myself (so far). I for one have only seen most of the midwest from an airplane, though I've never referred to it as fly over country. Actually, the only reason I haven't driven there yet is that there are lots of other places closer to home that I have wanted to see first. Now that I've seen a lot of the western U.S., I am hoping to head for the middle and see more of that. I hope that someday I get to do more than just fly over that area. As it was pointed out, there may not be mountains, but that is not the only requirement for someplace to be beautiful. The deserts of the southwest, including UT, CA, AZ, NM, NV, and CO are beautiful if you get there at the right time of year. I'm sure the same can be said of the midwest.

Colors are just getting into full swing. I'd imagine they will peak in one to two weeks. Here's from a little jaunt we did yesterday on Mt. Timp:

Little cove with a waterfall, one of many on this mountain's east slope:

Ooh, I just love the fall pictures. Not a lot of red down here this year, those are my favorite! Here are a few I took yesterday in the Huntington Canyon area.
