Hi... I have a child that is considering Weber State... iIknow there are a couple of resorts close by, but have never heard of them. How far is Park City from campus... or are the resorts close to the campus good enough that driving isn't worth it? What is the nightlife like in Ogden... let me put it to you this way... would a So. Cal kid be happy in Ogden? TIA!

I heard on the radio they are actually building a gondola that will pass through downtown and Weber State and directly up to Snowbasin resort. Doesn't get any better than that, but I don't know the timeline for this to actually come to fruition.
Here's the link if they'll let it state <http://www.ogdencity.com/displayarticle50.html>. If not just google Odgen Gondola
Park City would be at least an hour drive as you would have to drive 40 miles south to Salt Lake and then 20 miles up the canyon. The other SLC area resorts would be similarly far.
I don't know too much about Ogden, but it doesn't have the greatest reputation. I have worked with a shelter in the downtown area, and it is definitely not a great place. But I think Weber State is on the edge of Ogden in a nicer area. I don't know what he/she would like for nightlife, so I'm not sure how to answer that one.

I'm not a skier, but I just read a review online that talked about the 10 best "unknown" resorts, hidden treasures, or whatever. And two resorts by Ogden made the top 10! So it sounds like they're pretty good. The article said they're only unknown because they happen to be in a state with so many other world-class resorts, but anywhere else, they would stand on their own as great places to ski. One was Powder Mountain, and I think the other was Snowbasin.
I don't know about the nightlife in Ogden, though.

I live in N. Ogden, and Ogden does not have much of a night life but it is close enough to SLC for that. As far as snowboarding, you can't go wrong coming here. WSU is 30 min away from 3 resorts, Snowbasin, Power Mountain and Wolf Mountain. Weber has snowboarding classes set up with Power Mountain. Ogden is working on a gondola but it will not go to Snowbasin instead it will end at a new resort that is going to be built in Malan's basin above WSU, it would connect with WSU. Also Ogden City is building a High adventure center, with 50' rock climbing wall, simulated skydiving, and a (kayaking-surfing fake river?) There is also plenty of rock climbing, sports, hiking, etc. WSU is located on the East end of Ogden, on the bench of the wasatch mountains, the area is very nice.

I grew up in North Ogden were most of my class mates ended up going to Weber State. We always went up to Powder Mountain, Nordic Valley, and Snow Basin. Snow basin is much larger since the olympic expansion. Powder Mountain is my favorite, but the road can get sketchy if it starts snowing. Nordic Valley doesn't have the best skiing, but is really cheap and the night skiing is ok.
