Tooele County
I am moving to Tooele county for the summer so I need an apartment to rent for 3 months. My husband is working in Dugway and I will be in Tooele so we are looking for something in between like Rush Valley or Stockton. Because they are such small towns I have no way of finding rentals there. Is this unrealistic, will one of us simply have to commute further and choose between Tooele and Dugway? Can anyone help?

My husband received a job at Dugway too. I convinced him to fly us out there before accepting the job and I am glad he did. We personally did not like the area. The scenery is beautiful but the town of Tooele is small!! Only one main street that leads you from Salt Lake and it will take you to Dugway. Housing is a problem there. There are some housing communities but they are either on the lower priced end where the properties don't look upkept. Then you have the upper priced home 300k +. Don't get me wrong, those homes are beautiful but there are no homes priced in between. I think I only saw one apartment complex and I heard they were very, very expensive. It was also a little intimidating that every housing community had a Church of Latter Day Saints placed right in the center. The people there were not very friendly either. The only friendly faces we met were the ones that lived there that were from California. If you do decide to live there, there is housing in Dugway for the civilians and military. You would have to call housing because I heard there is a waiting list. If not, you might want to try Grantsville which was not that far from there or maybe Stockton might have some home rentals, but what we saw were new homes being built in there. Hope this helps

Tooele
It's unfortunate that you weren't comfortable here in Tooele. I moved my family here from Colorado in June 2005 and we really enjoy it here. It's a much slower pace and much quieter than it was in the Denver metro area. There has been substantial growth in the area and we now have a world class racing facility, the Miller Motorsports Park. It was ranked as the best new track in the world last year. There is talk that NASCAR will be moving here in the near future. I have spoke to people that have traveled here to race on the track and they have nothing but rave reviews of the challenge that it presents and the quality of it’s construction. Larry Miller, the owner, has invested over $10 million into the development of this facility.
As for housing, I do have a contact in Rush Valley that has two houses available, a 2 bedroom for $400/month and a 3 bedroom for $600/month. This lady has been a life long resident and is very friendly, regardless of your religious preference. If you are interested, please e-mail me and I’ll provide you with her contact information. I currently work in Rush Valley at the Deseret Chemical Depot for a contractor, EG&G Defense Materials. If you are looking for a job, they have plenty of jobs available. The parent company of EG&G is URS.

There are also van pools that run from Tooele to Dugway and your husband could join one of those. I hear that they are about $100 per month. I pay $50 per month for my ride to Deseret Chemical Depot.

I love tooele, it took a little time to get used to since I am from California. My parents moved there a few years ago so I am there often visiting. there is a wonderful recreation center with a nice activity pool for kids. like most of Utah it is very family oriented and was rated one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Don't try Grantsville it is to far west and everything is East. Stansbury Park would be a better option it is just north of Tooele and a few minutes from I-80, 35 minutes from downtown Salt Lake. If your looking for a home, I just purchased one but won't be able to relocate for 1-3 years so I need a clean renter untill were ready.

I got a job offer in Tooele Army Depot but kind of worried about the chemical destruction facility's effects on the environment and human health. How much and how far are rental apartments/house from Tooele.

hello
I am considering a job at Dugway and it seems Tooele is the best place for us. My wife is a speech therapist and will be looking for jobs in the area. Will Salt Lake City be a decent commute, i.e. traffic etc? We currently drive 30-45 minutes to work one way in Charlotte, NC.

Your wife’s commute will be about the same amount of time. It should be relatively, but not completely, traffic-free. My wife’s also a speech therapist, by undergrad degree at least. She has yet to get a masters and isn’t working at the moment.

Tooele, UT
Why anyone in their right mind would want to move to Utah, much less Tooele, is beyond reasoning.
We moved here due to my husband's employment and I absolutely hate Tooele, and Utah!
The entire state, city, towns are all governed by Mormons. This is one state that has never heard of the "separation of church and state."
There is absolutely nothing to do in Tooele, unless you count shopping at Wlamart an event! The nearest malls are approvimately 25 to 40 miles away, one way.
As far as Salt Lake City, it is nothing in comparison to Chicago, San Francisco, New York!
Every night I ask God why he moved us here. Haven't received an answer.
To save my sanity, I leave this state as often as I can to visit friends and family in states NOT controlled by Moromons, and where there is not a Mormon tabernacle on every corner!

Well, anyone who would think Salt Lake City is comparable to places like New York is crazy. Three square miles of Manhattan has more people than Downtown Salt Lake! However, you wonder why there are at least 40% non-Mormons in the metro - not everyone must think this place is insane
