Howdy – I may have the opportunity to move to the Provo/Orem area with my employer. Currently I live north of Sacramento in Yuba City, CA. Several years ago I had the chance to do some limited traveling throughout Utah and from what I saw it certainly seemed to be a very nice place. One caveat is that I would need to find a place within a 35 mile radius of the Provo area. Currently I’ve got a couple of acres for my horses and my daughters pygmy goats (her 4-H project) so I would like to find an area that is somewhat rural to try and match what I got. Some of the things I’ve picked up from the threads is that in some areas Non-LDS are considered persona non grata, especially if you’re Baptist, which I am. This is actually funny because here in CA my wife’s ex-boss is Mormon and we are tremendous friends with him and his whole family. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas on an area that would tend to “fill the bill” I certainly would appreciate any feedback you could provide. Many Thanks.

If you want rural, I'd look in southern Utah County, maybe in Spanish Fork or Payson. They're both within commuting distance of Provo, but they have land available and many places will allow animal rights. That's probably your best bet for livestock.

This is the area that I would also suggest.

If you can afford Mapleton or Springville you might really like that area. Otherwise try southern utah county like Payson or even as far as Santaquin.
Also, mormons are for the most part very welcoming and friendly, there are good and bad in every religion but if you are nice you'll be treated equally. I wouldn't worry about your future neighbors at all. In fact any of the locations suggested you can find very friendly neighborhoods |

Thanks for your responce em266. As far as neighbors of a different religious "flavor", that's pretty much my philosophy as well. I'll be looking in those areas you mentioned.
