Default Logan Life?

My dad is getting a job at the university there, and most likely we are going to move unless his offer doesn't fall through. I'm a teenage girl, and will probably be attending Logan High School. A lot of people tell me most people there are Mormon and white, and I'm Muslim and Pakistani. Will this be an issue? I'm not at all a racist person, I'm just thinking if the people there will be and I'll have a hard time fitting in if they are like that.. Is it a fun place to live? Or is it one of those places that are just sort of there but not much life in it? I'm not that much of an outdoor person, but I'm up for anything. I'm moving from Mansfield, TX, so what will it be like there compared to here? My friends are a bit ignorant, saying people there are "hillbillies", yet they haven't been there themselves. So I'd like some perspective from people who live/have lived there before. Mainly I need help on what Logan High will be like.

What I really hate is that Logan is the name of this kid I hate at my school........but I'll get used to it(hopefully).

Thanks for reading.

You will be different, it's definitely a majority white up here. But most people are still nice. My brother actually attends Logan High, he's a junior this year and he likes it. Out of all the schools in the valley I think you'll find the most variety at Logan High.

As for things to do, there is a park that has a couple of rides (adult rides that you'd find in a theme park) and other things (like go carts and games) that most teenagers have fun at. We have the Fun Park as well, which has laser tag, a bowling alley, pool tables, stuff like that.

A lot of kids here just hang out and watch movies, that kind of stuff. (That's what my brother and his friends usually do.) It's not the most exciting place in the world by any means, but it's a nice place to live and people are generally nice.

Logan is about the same size as Mansfield, but you are a lot farther away from a major city here.

I have been here for about 7 months now, and it is a pretty nice place to be. It is very white, and majority mormon. I have, however, met plenty of non-Mormon people with kids. And at any rate, I do not find being non-mormon here to be a particular issue for me, however, I am married in my early 30s and working full time.

After living here for a while, you may find you like hiking, biking, and even skiing here... it has plenty of fabulous opportunities for those activities here, and it is absolutely breathtaking.

My one and only one major complaint is that the shopping is truly crappy here. And I mean really crappy.

I use to live in Logan as a student. Now 16 years later I am returning with kids of my own. My son will be attending Logan High this fall. After researching the schools I found that of the three options for High School in the entire valley Logan High is the smallest and gets a better rating from most of the school sites. My Real Estate agent was very helpful in explaining all the changes that have happened since I left. Basically the area has boomed and after a trip two weeks ago It was very obvious. I am moving from Summerville SC which is 30 miles from Charleston and the shopping and dining comparison is about the same as where I am now. I will no longer have a major nightlife less then an hour away but I have no problem trading that for the mountains.

Also The State of Utah has a Middle School program that is establishing a resurgence of interest into skiing so you might think about trying it. (Basically they gave away passes to the ski slopes to public schools so most of the student know how to ski.)

As to religon...I'll be the one they are all talking about around the water coolers. Because I was raised Mormon but I am letting my children decide for themselves "gasp".

That sounds cool! Does that mean that as part of the PE cirriculum they take them skiing every so often? Is it only for middle schools or are high schools doing it too?

I graduated from LHS a few years ago. They stopped the LHS ski trip a while ago, I don't know why. There is a local resort that's just up the canyon, Beaver Mountain. It's small and old school but fantastic because it's got such great terrain variability and it's 'homey.' The local resort is also ridiculously cheap as far as rentals and tickets go compared to the others in Utah.

As for LHS: To say its 'mostly' white is not saying enough. The vast majority of students are white. There's a rising Hispanic population that kind of seemed to exist in their own world when I was there. If you are involved in extra stuff and aren't too shy, you'll be able to make friends. Yes, it will initially seem as though everyone in the school is Mormon, the good news is that they aren't. No matter how you feel towards the LDS population, remember there are always others who agree with you somewhere, you just have to find them. When I was there, the anti-Mormon-locals hot bed was mostly the debate team, but you probably won't end up feeling as repulsed.

There is also a decent population of professors kids (which for whatever reason translated into non-Mormon when I was there), so it's not weird or anything. Join a club or two to make friends, and if you hate it or love it, it'll all be over soon.
