Tourism in St George? (St. George: motel, jobs, homes)

Aside from passer-bys just spending the night while enroute to another destination, what, if any, tourism based economy does St George have?

Quite a bit, actually. St. George Marathon, Spring Break, Parade of Homes, Softball/Baseball Tournaments, etc are all big event and weekend tourism draws.

Many communities just about everywhere you go have realized the positive benefits which can make for a better community, jobs, attract business, reputation, etc. by developing, promoting tourism.

Does SG have an active Economic Development plan or agency which encompasses tourism ?

That's funny someone just asked me about if Spring Break is still big here...I answered well if it is, I sure haven't heard anything about it...But I could understand if it was, since we have the warmer climate compared to the rest of the state...Where I come from most of the college students go to destinations with sun/water...and probably alcohol..I say that jokingly but it's probably true...Come to think of it, this St. George probably is a good place for like minded students to take their break, have fun, and enjoy the sun...Do they spend it here? Now I am curious!

I doubt St George is much of a Spring Break hotspot. Las Vegas is just 2 hours south.

A lot of teenagers/recent high school graduates (in-state) go to St. George. It's not a "hot spot" for the college croud.

We've been here for 3 springs now, have not seen what I would consider a spring break crowd. Sorry to say that most college age kids want to go where it's fun and they can party....I honestly can't think of anything they would want to do here except hang out at the one and only...Which what our sons like to do when they come to visit.

Spring break is definitely not what it used to be, but still bring tourism dollars to St. George--typically families with k-12 children out of school. Back in the early 90s the Blvd was effectively gridlocked during high school spring break with the sidewalks lining the Blvd in the same condition (those were the fun days). However, due to complaints from residents and motel owners, ordinances and patrols were put in place to "significantly" reduce the influx as most were HS students and simply didn't bring many dollars to the economy--more trouble than it was worth.
