The U of U
Just wondering who goes or who has gone to the U? I've been in Phoenix for the past year and I have a job offer in Draper and I will be going back to school either in a Utah county school or the U. I went to UVSC for 3 years, and it was okay, plenty of younger people to meet but it did feel like a high school fashion show. Is it true that the U is a commuter school? Do any students live up there at all? I'm single and LDS, but BYU isn't my type of crowd, I would hope to meet some nice girls up at the U and have a good school experience up there. Phoenix is full of single people everywhere, and in Utah people tend to get married quick, I would hope not to move there and find I'm an old man, being that I'm 25. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I graduated from the U in 1996. I was in my early thirties when I finished my degree. I lived in Murray at the time and worked full time so the whole college scene wasn't part of my experience. I went to UVSC to get my associates then transferred to the U because there was no way I was going to attend BYU. I bleed red!!!! Which university would provide you with the best academic experience? What's your major? Remember that UVSC becomes UVU this fall I think. I spent the first 20 years of my life in Orem.....then I got out. It's a nice place to raise a family (according to my siblings) but I didn't fit in there and I'm happy to be living in the Salt Lake Valley.

I don't have a problem with Utah Valley, I used to, but living in Phoenix has changed my attitude about alot of things. I guess it just depends on where you live in the UC, the summer I lived in BYU apts. was one of the funnest summers I've ever had. Both BYU and UofU have good civil engineering programs, which is what I'm going to do. UVU doesn't do engineering..yet. But the U is a little more Full time worker friendly from what I hear. The college scene can get tiring, but it's usually the best way to meet people. There's just something about Utah County people that didn't click with me, don't know. Thanks for the input.

I graduated in 2000 with my bachelor's and 2002 with my master's from the U. I was in the business program - and it seems like at least 80% of the other students were married, most with children. If you decide to take classes at the Institute of Religion, you might meet some "normal" mormons. Yes, it's a commuter school, and the school feels like a ghost town in the afternoon. Overall, if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't go to the U., but I wanted more of a "normal" college experience.

I haven't yet but my dad went there and my three of my uncles went there too. I had a cousin who was a professor there and my grandfather was director of admissions, dean of students, vice president and special assistant to the president there for over 30 years.

There is housing on campus and also several apartments in the area near campus.

You ought to consider going to USU up in Logan. Solid civil engineering program. Big social scene. Logan is a great college town.

I would Consider USU definitely but my job would be in Draper, and they're the ones paying for school.
