laser eye surgery
anyone in the area here have the operation? good experience? bad? any recommendations, specifically on where or where not to go? we're still checking to see if my wife is even elligible--i don't remember the name of her condition off the top of my head, but it looked like she might benefit. i heard that it can slip back to how it was before the surgery--anyone have that problem?
thanks, aaron out.

My husband had it done, and is sorry he didn't have it done sooner! He had no problems and is enjoying life with out glasses. He went to Hoops Aldredge.(sp) He is a bit sensitive to light but knew this going into it. That is the only side affect he has experienced.

My husband had it done a few years ago and also wished he coulda done it sooner. It worked out fantastic for him!!! His eyesight was really terrible before and now he sees better than 20/20. He had it done at the lasik center over by fashion place in Murray.

I've had two LASIK procedures done on both eyes. I now wear a contact in one eye to correct my vision as there wasn't enough corneal tissue for another re-do. When I began this process in 2002, my vision was -8 & -9 in each eye (quite a strong prescription with astigmatism). I had my procedures done at the Eye Institute of Utah. My decision to go there was at the time, they had the doctor's with the most experience in Utah and their equipment was the newest available. My brother and a friend had their eyes done there too. But I have another friend who had hers done at Hoopes in Sandy. I feel that the number of "re-do's" or "touch-ups" is seriously under reported. Both my brother and one of my friends have had their's re- done.
After wearing glasses for 7 years, and contacts for 20 years, I was happy to be rid of needing anything to correct my vision. I was disappointed after my first surgery that my left eye needed to be corrected just three months later. Then four years after that, they both needed to be corrected. But at this time, only the right eye had enough corneal tissue for the procedure.
There was no pain in any of my procedures. You only feel the pressure from the device that holds your eye lids wide open. Recovery is amazingly quick if you follow the doctor's guidlines. I kept my proctective shields on every night for a week while I slept. I didn't want to chance my dog bumping my eyes. I had an allergic reaction to one of the post-op eye drops after my second procedure. But that was quickly rectified.
With the availability and comfort of soft, disposable contacts, it really isn't much of a hassle to just wear one lens. My prescription is only -2 and I would definitely go through all of this over again even if I had to wear contacts. My prescription isn't very strong so on weekends, sometimes I forget to put on my glasses or wear my one contact.
One noticable change is the increase in dryness in both eyes. I use a lot of moisturizing drops. But then again, Utah's climate is very dry to begin with so that just adds to the need for eye drops.

thanks for the info. this is very heartening, especially hearing of the snags that eggalegga went through, while still having a positive outlook on the process.
curious though, eggalegga started the ordeal back in 2002. what about the others? how long ago did you have the op?

Do any of you feel comfortable sharing costs, total for initial surgery and re-do's? I assume insurance doesn't cover such a thing, isn't it considered cosmetic?

We payed 1200 and we didn't have any redo's. The surgery couldn't of gone better.

Was the $1200 for both eyes or per each eye?

It was for both eyes. They initially set the price at 1500 but my husband talked them down.
