Good advice. Go to www.lds.org and use the meetinghouse locator on that site.. It will have phone numbers, meeting times, and addresses.. Or use your phonebook -- same kind of stuff there.

Excellent advice for Anna... of course Anna could be one of those people on the internet...
or even could be some PD trying to sting some molesters likeon datelineNBC....

Oh its so confusing... Anna(whoever you are) go outside, get a breathe of fresh air,
and head to your local LDS, and meet someone in person.

A joke our (LDS) real estate agent told us:

Q: How can you tell if someone's a good Mormon?
A: The temperature of their caffiene

1) I will have to agree with most of the people, just be honest about your beliefs. Try to interact with your neighbors without religious conversations. You can still be good freinds and neighbors and not be LDS. I am LDS but I'm not real active at church. I do okay in the neighborhood, they all know I'm a good person, I just don't go to church every week.

2) The whole caffeine thing is about addiction, Caffeine is addicting, the church urges us to stay away from things that our bodies can be addicted to, coffee, tea, soda, alcohol, cigaretts, drugs, etc... Like people have said, soda wasn't around in 1833, but we still are suppose to stay away from caffeine drinks which includes Pepsi, Coke, Mt Dew, etc... I drink Pepsi in moderation. I could give it up today if President Hinkley said absolutly no caffeine soda. I don't drink alcohol, never have, don't somke, never have. Pepsi would be my bad habit. If you relaly want to look at it, chocolate has caffeine, should we stop eating that. No, Moderation is the key...

Good luck, don't worry so much about people trying to convert you. Be honest and kind to everyone and you'll be fine.

I know several people that are addicted to running. Of of my closest friends is into running so much that he can't go a day --even on vacation-- without his daily run. He's into races and marathons, etc. He claims he get a high from running. He's definitely addicted.

Do Mormons not believe in physical exercise? No. So there has to be a more definitive explanation than just staying away from things that the human body can be addicted to.

Maybe harmful things that one can be addicted to? But then in all seriousness, shopping could be harmful.

Too much running or physical exercise could have damaging results to the body too.

Ok, I don't even know what point I'm trying to make here.

Thanks.

I run 3-4 times per week. I’m not addicted because I don’t always go when I’m on vacation. But I look forward to it (most of the time). The Word of Wisdom (WoW) actually concludes with the promise that those who follow it will “run and not be weary and walk and not faint,” so it would appear that running is on the exception list of acceptable but addicting behaviors. Other exceptions include fry sauce, hiking in the Wasatch mountains, and green jello

In reality, the WoW deals with specific substances like tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and tea. It also has another aspect that encourages eating grains, limiting meat consumption, and the like. I think Mormons do a much better job of following the prohibitions than adhering to the dietary aspects of the WoW, as exhibited by the popularity of the many (tasty) burger joints around.

*tongue in cheek*

The Church should be concerned about the following addictions because...

Fry Sauce. It has high salt content therefore not good for the body because of the possiblility of raising blood pressure.

Hiking in the Wasatch. Not good for the body because one could trip on the trail and break a leg. One could get lost and suffer from all kinds of consequences that might be detrimental to the body.

Green Jello. Sugar content could easily make a person overweight. Bad for the body.

Incidentally, shouldn't being overweight be against LDS rules? That's definitely bad for the body and unhealthy.

Ok, stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Thanks.

just to clear up any misconceptions in this whole caffiene area because a lot of people seem to be confused about it. mormons can drink it. we have never publicly or privately condemned it ever. So don't worry about offering soda, its fine. We do not drink any alcohol, or hot drinks like tea and coffee, those are really the only things not to offer, but thanks for being concerned.
