That sounds like a great yard and lot. Like I said Daybreak has its pros and cons, with the community aspect being the best. The elementary school and fitness center is really neat -- I've stuck my head in there a couple of times. I'd love to have a place like that to go work out at during the winter.

I think Daybreak's pretty diverse, for Utah though I don't know personally anyone other than my wife's sister there. I do know the house being built next door to them was bought by a couple from Scotland moving to the US.

I'm not sure where which side of Lehi IM Flash is on, but it shouldn't be too bad of a commute. You would be going against most of the traffic coming into Salt Lake County. In fact, I'd be interested to know how you like the company. They are hiring like crazy and always have several positions open on my university's recruiting page. Good luck with the contract!

We live in Daybreak and love it. We've been here since July and just in the time we've been here the neighborhood has had a catered party at the park, a "malibu nights" party for adults at the volleyball courts, a family campout (again catered) at the park, a lake opening party, a rotating dinner and there's a wine group that meets once a month. It's very social and there's something for everyone. The school is OK but they have a lot of kids in each class compared to most states and my kids learned a lot of the stuff they are learning now last year in Texas. I'm sure it all equals out eventually though. Good luck with your move.

Thanks, Thatgirl.

We are looking forward to our move there. We heard the Texas schools were great but also Utah schools are way up there. I think the big class sizes come with living in a booming area.

It sounds like we will have lots of opportunities to meet other families there. We have already met people there just from letting our kids play at the school playground. Everyone has been quite friendly.

I just found this website yesterday while trying to find info on Utah. My husband is taking a job with IM Flash as well, and we have all the same concerns as you, DP525!

I say all of us non-LDS transplants from IM Flash buy homes in the same neighborhood. With 2,000 families moving into the area, I think we can guarantee that our kids will have other non-LDS kids to play with.

Okay, I'm being a bit silly, but it would be great to settle in where I know some other IM Flashers live too. (not to digress but that would make a great personalized license plate (IMFLSHR)! Think you'd get stopped by the police frequently?) LOL

Originally, we wanted to live in Sandy/Draper or at least stay east of 15. After looking at what our money would buy there, we started looking in Highland/Alpine/Lehi - much nicer newer homes, but then the whole diversity thing comes up. Oh, and there's no shopping nearby except American Fork. By the way, is is just me, or does anyone else think the Traverse Mountain development is ugly? The homes are nice, but the view of the mountains is all blocked by the foothills which aren't much to look at.

I hadn't considered west of 15 because of what other people had told me...not considered as nice...more crime...house won't appreciate as much, etc. But, Daybreak sounds pretty nice. One of the things I wanted to find was a community with a pool for summer, trails to bike and walk our dog, and the lake where you can kayak sounds ideal. So, I may have to check it out on our next visit. I'll be anxious to find out, DP525, if you got the house, and then how you like the commute!

your fellow IMFlasher (well, spouse of!)

Sorry to interupt the Imflasher thread. I'm interested in Heber and cities nearby like Midway. What percentage of these cities are LDS?

I don't know the percentage of LDS there, but definitely more than Park City or Salt Lake. I was up in Jackson WY visiting my sister a few weeks ago. Her neighbor -- non-lds -- lived in Heber for a while and felt somewhat isolated and enjoys Jackson more.

I was up in Midway on Saturday and its a really nice area with lots of building going on, so things might be changing. I don't know a whole lot about the area for sure though.

I have not read all of this thread, so forgive me if this has been stated already. I'm LDS, but I didn't grow up in Utah. I'm from Arkansas. Kids in the schools there are just like kids in the schools everywhere. They will find something to torment each other with. In Utah, it might be the LDS thing. If that wasn't there, then they would find something else to discriminate with, whether it be money, religion, race, ethnicity or whatever. I believe too much focus is on the LDS thing, when in reality the schools there are no better or worse than anywhere else. There will always be people there making someone else's life a living hell. Utah is a great place to live. Don't let this scare you from what may be a great opportunity.

Yes, Marat, you do bring up a very good point that has been stated here before. I agree that maybe the whole thing is blown out of proportion and that kids will be kids (for good or bad) anywhere.

For everyone else following this thread, we got a contract on the Daybreak house. We have already met some neighbors who introduced themselves even though we haven't even moved in. Everyone there seems so friendly. We can't wait to get in!

All non-LDS...be forewarned....the WILL convert your children and you WILL miss your daughter's wedding (if you decide to stay) while you wait outside their wonderful temple because you are not worthy to enter the sacred halls and witness the fig leaves and bakers hats, do the secret handshakes, chant the secret chants....neat religion, isn't it?!?!
