Coolcats,

I have one child at Daybreak Elementary and two are preschool age. My oldest is enjoying school so far and has not complained about her treatment there or not making friends. We haven't asked her point blank because we don't want to plant any suggestions. The school seems crowded but the facilities are nice. I don't think anything could be much worse than the school district we left so maybe we have low expectations. I wish I could give you more details but we just haven't been there that long to form any real opinions.

Do half of the children leave mid-day and get to go to seminary? Oh wait, the formal brainwashing takes place around the 9th year of school I think. My apologies.

Anyway, we love it in Daybreak. And after much anxiety, we now call ourselves what you call yourself--Utahans!!
We call ourselves Utards, but we're kinda joking.

Outside of Utah it isn't a joke.

It's interesting to me that you mention housing and employment discrimination. When we relocated here, religion was not brought up when we were looking for a house. As for employment, religion was not brought up when my husband transferred here OR when I applied for my own job. There are pleanty of non-LDS people who work and live in the area we live in. So I think your prospective is quite skewed.

We are LDS and our children are not running wild and are quite disciplined. In our neighborhood, children do not run around like wild creatures either. I just wanted to say we are not all like that. I think kids can be unruly no matter where you live.:-)

I'm so happy to hear that thus far, your fears havebeen put to rest! It sounds like you have moved into a great neighborhood! We are LDS and have lived back in Utah for a little over a year now. We love our neighborhood. We live in Northern Utah(Layton/Riverdale/Ogden area). We like it a lot.

Anyway, I am glad you like it! I hope it continues to be a good choice for your family. BTW, my husband is working on the Micron plant in Lehi. He's an electrician there. He LOVES working there and we are benefitting from the huge growth that is going on at the plant too! :-)
