Lad, I am only going to do this once, but I have decided to take pity on you and pull you out of the path of the oncoming train called the Moderator. I will assume your recent posts are simply a matter of a very bad command of the English language and not a matter of a mean spirit.

First, my original post was humor of the dry variety. Although the events and circumstances were true, it was nothing more than a light-hearted illustration of how some of the non-LDS population outside of Utah and Idaho view the LDS faith. I initiated the thread as a means of diffusing the concerns of those who might be moving to Utah and how the Mormons might treat them by demonstrating there is much misunderstanding. You obviously missed the point of the post entirely, so I now feel obligated to help you understand.

I am not concerned about eating pizza. Beer is prohibited by a tenant of my religion; however, the real point of that particular line was violating the Sabbath. You know, Sunday. You have a personal relationship with Jesus; therefore, I’m certain he has told you about Sunday.

Mormon’s do believe in the Bible, and we do “drink and be merry;” we just don’t drink coffee, tea, or alcohol.

Finally, let me address your fear and sheep statement. Did you know I am a cop? Some of my compatriots believe we Band of Oinkers are wolves among sheep too frightened to take care of themselves. I don’t hold to that line of reasoning. I am a sheep. I belong to the heard controlled by Christ, and I feel safe in his hands. There was a time when I was not one of the “Ninety and Nine,” but he left the heard and brought me back to the fold.

In an attempted defense of "TellItLikeItIs", I will mention that, like the LDS church, many denominations are all about missionary-style conversion of the lost and misguided. TellIt is obviously a member of one of these. While the LDS folks, in general, practice a great deal of tolerance, many other denominations do not have tolerance as part of their credo - in other words, they believe they must walk into the fire where the misguided burn and deliver them from their ways. They just can't leave it alone.
So, TellIt is probably only doing what he believes he must do - and perhaps (I'm calling he/she/it a he - I may be wrong and sorry if I am) now that he's said his piece and done his duty, he can go on with posting in a tolerant and more open manner to a forum thread designed to illuminate folks of Mormon and non-Mormon derision on how to fare with the Mormon populace of Utah - and many other places.

It's a very strange thing, but after 32 years in law enforcement, I have learned one absolute truth. I know I am on the right track and have discovered the truth when the volume of denials and the screeching accusations of “you've got the wrong guy” increase.

In all your years did you ever work with death row inmates in Illinois or Texas?

No. I worked for Philadelphia PD right after I got out of the service for 18 months, but my wife and I soon discovered we couldn't adapt to the East Coast style, so we returned to California, where I have worked for a SF Bay Area PD since. It's almost over, though. I walk out the door July 2. I’m really glad. I’ve been shuttling back and forth from Utah to California twice a month since June. I’ll be glad to have that behind me.

I'm non LDS, in fact, I'm pagan of sorts. I've been trolling this board in preparation for our move to the SLC area for my husband's new job (we settled in Eagle Mountain about 2 weeks ago) and some of the posts here absolutely astound me. My husband is stubbornly atheist, 23 yrs. old and very scientific. We both had concerns with moving to this area because of the high LDS population and the (mostly fictional) horror stories about this "cult." We did research, we Googled, we spoke with friends, we talked to people from Wards. We asked questions and became founts of knowledge on the subject. We were prior military and have literally lived all over the world. I have never lived anywhere as clean as this area. People are nice, if only superficially (it's not your neighbor's job to hold your hand and give your life meaning,) children are well behaved and well cared for, and I live amongst families that spend 40-60% of their waking day TOGETHER. Sure, they don't drink coffee, tea, soda, alcohol or smoke. Who cares why? They are healthier for it. At the end of the day if the main side affect of their religion is good health and a happy home life... what's the harm? To those terribly worried about "Fitting in" or co-existing with your mormon neighbors, with attitudes like this - you're sure to find the troubles you're looking for. It's simple, if you don't like it, don't live here?

Actually, a fantastic post; it's exactly what I wanted to hear. My wife and I are prepping for a move there soon, and I was really keen to hear about an experience similat what I might have. I like to live a clean life, although I drink every now and then, but I would like to know that I won't have missionaries over every other week. I am similar to your husband, I am 22 and I just don't believe in, or with agree with any religion...but that's simply my opinion. Good luck to you, and it's nice to hear your story...

The LDS church is a cult, there is no questioning that. Where in the Bible is there any mention of the mormon church or Joseph Smith or any of the mormon prophets.
